Welcoming Zachary Alexander Babb

By | Friends and Family | No Comments

Meet Zachary Alexander Babb! It’s hard to believe we’ve been parents for a whole month now – the time flies by so fast. We welcomed Zach into the world on January 22. He surprised the midwife and doctor with his stats – 8lbs 3oz and 21.5″ tall. We are thankful that we planned to deliver at a hospital since Melinda needed an emergency Cesarean section. Zachary is perfect and Melinda is healing well. We feel very blessed to have so many friends and family help out. Both of our moms have stayed with us and have cooked, cleaned, and diapered for us. We want to thank our many friends who have kept us well fed- we are so grateful for your thoughtfulness.  Also, a big shout out to those that helped us get prepared through clothes, gear and other goodies. Everyone’s support has really helped us ease into parenthood. Though we definitely have had some challenging days, this first month has been joyful and peaceful. It’s amazing how we can so love someone who we’ve barely just met.  The late night feedings and diaper sessions are so worth it to have the privilege of being in our little one’s life. It’s been fun getting to know Zach’s personality- he is totally a snuggler and while he can’t smile on purpose yet, that hasn’t stopped his papa from trying to encourage it. Some highlights so far are hearing him laugh in his sleep, holding him as he tries to burrow into you for snuggles, and watching his legs go into the…

Happy New Year!

By | Friends and Family, News and Updates | No Comments

Happy New Year all! We certainly thought this year would start off with a little one in the nursery! You may remember that a few weeks ago, everyone at our hospital thought I would deliver by Christmas, and as you can see, we’ve made it past that and even New Year’s. On Tuesday, I hit the 39 week mark, and while I’m so very grateful, I am also so very ready! Mentally, we were prepared to have delivered weeks ago, so it feels like the little one is running late even though my due date isn’t till next week (Jan 13). I have been swinging back and forth between “I’m just going to have to get used to being pregnant the rest of my life” to “I don’t think I’m going to get to publish this post before I go into labor!” Thankfully, everything is still looking good- Monday’s appointments showed good heart rates and baby Babb is still head down. VERY head down in fact- the nurses have noted that I’m very low and one doctor in passing commented on my belly’s impressive profile. I look like I’m trying to shoplift a beach ball! It has been getting quite uncomfortable, so I’m thankful that my last day of work was December 30. I’ve just been trying to rest at home and do a few things I figure I won’t have time for soon, like knitting and reading. Brandon and I were also able to go on two dates this…

Little Baby Babb

By | Friends and Family, News and Updates, Personal Reflections | 5 Comments

Well now, we promised an update on baby Babb, didn’t we? Here we go! I’m now 35 weeks along! Today I went in for a non-stress test and an ultrasound. The tech estimated our little boy to weigh in at 6lb 8oz already! She also took some adorable 3-D ultrasound photos for us. Last week when I went in for my non-stress test, they sent me down to Labor & Delivery triage because I was having so many Braxton-Hicks contractions. After a few hours of monitoring and an IV for hydration, they determined that I wasn’t in true labor. I am, however, dilated to 3cm. Because of this, the nurses and midwives think I will probably deliver by Christmas! Little Babb has been measuring one week big and my tummy is measuring two weeks big (extra fluid), but Christmas would still be three whole weeks early. We are hoping he will hold on for a little while longer- 36 weeks (Dec 16) makes for a better baby. We would appreciate your prayers that he would come at a healthy time for his development. The good news is that when a baby this far along is “driving” (I go into labor naturally) the baby doesn’t usually have many problems or need NICU time. We are very grateful for this prognosis. Needless to say, this bumped-up (get it?) due date has had us in a flurry this week. This weekend we had our family baby shower and received some key items- the…
